Scarlet Scarves, LLC launched on August 6, 2013 in Richmond, Virginia. Founder Beth Frazier said she started it after growing tired of the direct sales companies she had worked with, and named it after Scarlett O'Hara. Independent Consultants sold infinity and oblong scarves, hats, bags, hair accessories, baby leg warmers and awareness-ribbon jewelry at home parties, at events and through personal websites. The company said it had a little over 200 consultants by the end of 2014, and it planned a second annual conference for August 2015. Its online store was last captured working in March 2015. By October 2016 the domain showed a "for sale" parking page, and no closure notice was ever published.

Scarlet Scarves - Our Thoughts

Company History

Scarlet Scarves launched on August 6, 2013 in Richmond, Virginia, according to its own About Us page. Its founder, Beth Frazier, was born and raised in Virginia. The company described her as a United States Army veteran, a wife and mother of two girls, and a breast cancer survivor at the age of 32.

The About Us page said she had been caught up in the hype of direct sales and decided she had had enough. She joked with her husband that she should start her own company without everything she disliked about the others. The name came from Scarlett O'Hara, whom she saw as a strong, classy, independent woman.

“Scarlet Scarves was founded on the principal that everyone hates Direct Sales companies. Sound strange? Of course it does.”

About Us — Scarlet Scarves website (scarletscarves.us, archived), December 2014

The first website ran on a direct sales platform with consultant pages. In late 2014 the company moved its store to a new shop that priced in US and Canadian dollars. By then it said it had "a little over 200 consultants." In December 2014 it announced its 2nd Annual Scarlet Scarves Conference, set for August 7 to 9, 2015 in Orlando, Florida.

What They Sold

Scarlet Scarves sold scarves first, then a widening range of low-priced accessories. Its store in early 2015 listed these categories:

  • Scarves: infinity scarves such as Polka Dot Accent, Cable Knit and Paw Print, and oblong prints such as Aztec, Paisley and Houndstooth.
  • Accessories and bags: hats, utility totes, messenger bags and lunch bags, plus knit leg warmers.
  • Hair accessories.
  • Baby & Me: baby leggings with names like Birthday Girl and Dancing Queen.
  • Awareness Collection: ribbon pins, an End Bullying bangle and military heart bracelets.

In March 2015 the home page showed infinity scarves at $15, hats at $10 and leggings and bracelets at $5. Earlier Direct Sales Aid content said $5 of every item in the company's charity line went to cancer support and research. It also described a "Scarf of the Month" club. We could not confirm either detail on the archived pages we could read.

How the Business Worked

Sellers were called Independent Consultants. They sold at in-home parties, at events and through a personal e-commerce website, and they could build a team by sponsoring new consultants. The company told customers that their consultant was the first point of contact for orders.

  • Discount: consultants bought any product at 40% off retail through their back office.
  • Quota: a small personal sales quota of $100 every three months, and no team quotas.
  • Inventory: optional. The company said a consultant could hold a party online with no inventory at all.
  • Where: joining and shopping were open to residents of the US and Canada. The company began shipping to Canada in June 2014.

Earlier Direct Sales Aid content listed a starter kit of about $60. We could not confirm the kit price on the archived company pages. Hosts earned free products through a Hostess Rewards Program, and the company said a party usually lasted about two hours. It also ran a yearly conference for consultants.

What Happened

Scarlet Scarves never published a closure notice that we could find, so the record comes from its website as saved by the Internet Archive. The store was working normally on March 7, 2015, with a 2015 copyright line and products for sale. The archive has no captures of the site between then and October 6, 2016. On that date, scarletscarves.us showed a Sedo domain-parking page saying the domain "may be for sale by its owner." Captures through 2018 show the same parking page. On October 2, 2026 the domain did not resolve at all.

The company gave no public reason and we found no successor brand. We could not confirm whether the August 2015 conference took place. Former consultants kept any stock they had bought but could no longer reorder. If you liked buying scarves and accessories at home parties, look at live companies on Direct Sales Aid such as Paparazzi, Stella & Dot and LuLaRoe. Our archive of the Scarlet Scarves products page is still online.

Scarlet Scarves FAQ

Is Scarlet Scarves still in business?
There is no sign of it. The company's online store was last seen working in March 2015. By October 2016 its web address showed a domain-for-sale parking page, and today the domain does not resolve. Scarlet Scarves never published a closure notice that we could find, and no successor brand has appeared.
What happened to Scarlet Scarves?
Beth Frazier launched Scarlet Scarves in Richmond, Virginia, on August 6, 2013. It grew to a little over 200 consultants by late 2014 and planned a 2015 conference in Orlando. Its website then went dark sometime between March 2015 and October 2016. The company gave no public reason, so we do not know why it stopped trading.
Can I still buy Scarlet Scarves products?
Not from the company. Scarlet Scarves stopped selling when its website went offline. A former consultant may still have leftover scarves or accessories, and used pieces sometimes turn up on resale sites. There is no official source for new products, and the company's Scarf of the Month club, if it ran, has ended.
What companies are similar to Scarlet Scarves?
For accessories sold through independent sellers today, look at Paparazzi, which sells low-priced jewelry and accessories, Stella & Dot, which has sold scarves alongside jewelry, and LuLaRoe for clothing. None of them focuses on scarves the way Scarlet Scarves did. On Direct Sales Aid you can compare their starter costs and pay plans.
