Chalk Couture - Our Thoughts

  • Company Overview

When founder Tara Roark got a great deal on a large picture frame in her native Boise, ID, she immediately decided to create a magnetic chalkboard to display her photos. After struggling to find durable, beautiful magnets that weren’t made of cheap plastic, she realized her work of art could be so much more.

    The Writing on The Wall

Putting her design school training to use, she began to build what would become Chalk Couture - an innovative combination of crafting, direct sales, and one-of-a-kind chalkboard art. Her boards, stencils, tools and special “Chalkology Paste” paints form the basis of a new business: Chalk Couture.

    Chalk it Up to Fun

In an age of ho-hum whiteboards, the classic beauty of the chalkboard is making huge waves in chic home decor. Chalk Couture is a direct sales company that connects sensational DIY-style chalkboards, a rainbow of on-trend colors, accessories, and so much more. The customization angle is an exciting breath of fresh air in the home decor market. Best of all, no special skills or training are required - your first board is as easy to create as your tenth!

The Chalk Couture process allows fans to not only pick the colors, shapes, and styles that will define their board, but to actually create a finished piece with their own two hands. This interactive element makes Chalk Couture parties so much more than a simple shopping experience. A Chalk Couture party is a fun crafting event that lets attendees create memories as well as reusable focal wall art for their homes.

  • Compensation Plan

Independent Chalk Couture Designers earn a 40% commission on sales they make in-person at parties, selling product pre-purchased at a wholesale discount. They can also opt to earn 25% on sales made through their “Chalk Site” online sales portal, which are sold, processed and shipped by Chalk Couture directly. Additional earning opportunities are available through team building and achievement of certain personal sales volume tiers.

  • Starter Kit

Your Chalk Couture Starter Kit, priced at $99, contains more than twice that investment in products to sample, share, and explore as you build your business. You’ll also get a smartphone app that can be used as a convenient point-of-sale system at parties, as well as the first month of your sales portal “Chalk Site” for free. While each subsequent month will cost $25.99 for access, you’ll get a new, free chalk transfer stencil each month as well. Your starter kit will also come with marketing materials to help you promote your business, sell more products, and book more parties.
